Online movie nigh discussion in French: Amour
Online Movie Night discussion in French: Amour
Tuesday 2 November: 6 :00pm-7:30pm
Come and join us for a new discussion in French about the movie "Amour" by Austrian director Michael Haneke, Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012.
Synopsis:
Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple’s bond of love is severely tested. Veteran French stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva are unforgettable in Austrian director Michael Haneke’s tender, wrenching story of love and death.
"Scene after scene is an exquisite masterclass of astonishing acting." Nick James, Sight & Sound "Old
age isn't for sissies, and neither is this film." Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "What
makes Amour not only bearable but cathartic is the beauty of the filmmaking and the delicacy of the performances." Amy
Taubin, Film Comment "Haneke has taken the ordinary - getting old; dying; happens to us all; no exceptions - and has
transformed it into something so literate, powerful, terrifying, intelligent and extraordinary." Deborah Ross, The Spectator
"A
tender, wrenching, impeccably directed story of love and death." Manohla Dargis, New York Times
