Foreword by the Artist

Happy memories of trips through France are the basis of these paintings, especially visits to Monet’s garden at Giverny and Cezanne’s studio in Aix-en-Provence. The Impressionists, the Post Impressionists and the Cubists provide the inspiration for most of the paintings and in many cases the originals from which copies have been made.

Through these works tributes have been paid to Gauguin, Van Gogh, Morisot, Corot, Manet and Picasso, as well as to the people of France. There are images of Giverny, famous buildings and rural scenes. The techniques of various artistic movements have also been applied to local topics, such as the poplars in Commonwealth Gardens and the countryside at Strathnairn Homestead.

It is my hope that these paintings will recall for viewers warm memories of their own journeys.
