The Alliance Française de Canberra is the only certified institution where you can take the DELF/DALF exam in the ACT.
It is also the only DELF/DALF training center approved by the French government in the ACT.

Candidates with special educational needs may get specific testing accommodations provided they request it in writing. Candidates requesting specific accommodations need to provide a proof of their specific status.

A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2: What are these language levels?

What is A1 level?

A1 corresponds to a user level elementary (level introductory or discovery).
This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand and use familiar and everyday expressions and very simple statements that are intended to meet concrete needs
Knowing how to introduce yourself or someone
Being able to ask and answer questions about a person
Communicate simply if the caller speaks slowly and clearly and is cooperative

What is A2 level?

A2 corresponds to a user level elementary (level middleman or usual).

This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand single phrases and frequently used expressions in relation to areas of the everyday environment (e.g. simple personal and family information, shopping, work)
Ability to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring only a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine subjects
Describe with simple means his training, his immediate environment and talk about subjects that correspond to immediate needs

What is B1 level?

B1 corresponds to a user level self-employed (level threshold).

This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand the essential points of a discussion when clear and standard language is used and if it is familiar things at work, school, leisure, etc.
Be autonomous in most situations encountered while traveling in an area where the target language is spoken
To be able to produce a simple and coherent discourse on familiar subjects and in its fields of interest
The ability to tell a story, an experience or a dream, describe a hope or a goal, and briefly explain the reasons or reasons for a project or idea

What is B2 level?

B2 corresponds to a user level self-employed (level advanced or self-employed).

This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand the essential content of concrete or abstract subjects in a complex text, including technical discussion in its specialty
Communicating spontaneously and easily with a native speaker
Express a clear and detailed opinion on a wide range of topics, express an opinion on a topical issue and set out the advantages and disadvantages of different possibilities

What is C1 level?

C1 corresponds to a user level experienced (level autonomous).

This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand long and demanding texts and grasp implicit meanings
Speak spontaneously and fluently without having to search for words
Use language effectively and flexibly in social, professional or academic life
Express themselves on complex subjects in a clear and well-structured way and demonstrate their control of the linguistic tools of organization, articulation and cohesion of the discourse

What is C2 level?

C1 corresponds to a user level experienced (level autonomous).

This means that you have the following capabilities:

Understand long and demanding texts and grasp implicit meanings
Speak spontaneously and fluently without having to search for words
Use language effectively and flexibly in social, professional or academic life
Express themselves on complex subjects in a clear and well-structured way and demonstrate their control of the linguistic tools of organization, articulation and cohesion of the discourse

Why take the DELF/DALF exam ?

The DELF/DALF diplomas are official French language certifications for non-native speakers administered by the French Ministry for Education and recognised in 165 countries.

A DELF/DALF diploma is required to apply to French universities and is a great asset to show on your CV. Each year, over 300,000 students register to take the DELF/DALF exams. There are 6 levels available, from beginner to advanced and your results are valid for life.

What diplomas should I take?

The 6 DELF and DALF diplomas are independent from one another, so you can take the examination of your choice. You can also sit the examination for a number of diplomas during the same examination session. If you are studying at Alliance or not, please refer to the level and examinations description HERE in order to decide which exam level you should sit for.

If you are not studying with us and if you are unsure of the level you should submit a free level assessment request to start with, and we will contact you to advise you of your level.

How can I get ready for the exam?

Practice with Alliance Française de Canberra: DELF-DALF Preparation courses (from 17 years old) in April-May 2022, Le Club or Private tuition.
Alliance Française de Canberra is the only DELF/DALF exam and training centre approved by the French Government in the ACT.
100% of 2021 candidates who took a DELF-DALF preparation course or tuition with Alliance Française de Canberra passed their DELF-DALF exams!

Make sure you select the correct exam level for you. In case you do not know, ask your teacher.

How to register

1. Fill in the registration form using capital letters - please note that the information you provide on the form will appear on your diploma. Diplomas will only be issued once, therefore it is your responsibility to ensure you provide accurate details with an easy-to-read handwriting.

2. Email your completed registration form before the deadline.

3. Pay online by selecting your level:
➡️ DELF/DALF Adults
➡️ DELF Junior
➡️ DELF Prim

If providing payment for a third party, please add a comment to specify who will be taking the exam.
Appointments will be made with each candidate for the oral part of the exam by email one week before the examinations at the latest.

Enrolments will not be confirmed until the full application fee and signed forms have been received.
Registrations without payment will not be processed.

Results

Results are emailed to you about one month after sitting the test.
After this, you will then receive emails advising you when your certificate and diploma are ready.
The certificates are printed in Canberra but the diplomas come from France and will take a few months to be processed.

If you cannot come and pick them up, we can arrange to have them sent to you:
you will need to provide us with an A4 Registered Post envelop with your name and address on it.

Note that DELF/DALF examiners and markers are all trained and authorized by the FEI.
They follow strict assessment guidelines and are regularly monitored.
